Job Description:
Research Technician in Geochemistry, Fluid Inclusion Laboratory
An opportunity is currently available at ExxonMobil Upstream Research for a geochemistry lab technician. A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in geology, geochemistry, chemistry/chemical engineering, physics, and/or a related field is required, as well as knowledge and experience in optical microscopy and spectroscopy (UV, visible, and/or IR). This position requires meticulous laboratory technique and solid computer skills.
Responsibilities include:
. Calibration and operation of a laser fluorescence spectrometry system
. Calibration and operation of a confocal laser scanning microscope
. Routine data collection, reporting, and archiving
. Equipment troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, replacement, and upgrades
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, along with self-motivation and prompt handling of responsibilities are essential. Interaction and collaboration with ExxonMobil affiliates and Research Company personnel are an important part of this position.
The successful applicant must have basic knowledge of equipment operation and safe working practices and, with extensive training, be able to independently perform experiments, devise new analytical procedures, operate, maintain, and construct experimental and/or analytical equipment and conduct data analysis.
Experience in one or more of the techniques listed below would also be beneficial:
. Petrology and petrography
. Laser RAMAN analysis
. Fluid inclusion microanalysis
. Chemometrics
. Quantitative image analysis
. Computer programming
