2013 - PhD Advanced Process Control and Optimization Intern
Responsible for process design and associated support activities to all projects. Key responsibilities of the Process Design Engineer include working with the internal customer''''s operations, technical, and planning organizations to:
Identify the specifics of the project scope Identify all process design or scope-related issues
Develop the project scope, including all identification of facilities, sizing and specification of all new equipment, piping, etc.
Obtain endorsement of the owner''''s technical and operations representatives and the plant safety and environmental organizations.
Activities include process simulations, sizing and specification of equipment, hydraulic calculations, development of process flow diagrams and piping and instrument diagrams, etc. Computer programs are extensively used to support process design activities. Typical assignments include:
Responsible for the development of process design specifications for small/mid-sized capital projects or member of a design team on major projects
Develop Design Basis Memorandums
Provide process design-related technical support services to operating and technical organizations
Perform safety relief reviews of existing and new operating units.
Some typical activities include checking/sizing safety relief valves, flare and blowdown collections headers and systems, and evaluating existing units for compliance with Company design practices and safety standards. Provide process engineering support on Hazard and Operability Analysis of new and existing units (HAZOP''''s). Provide process design support to projects during detailed engineering. Represent process engineering function on multi-discipline project team.
