Metocean Specialist
ExxonMobil is currently looking for experienced metocean specialists to support design and operation development of offshore facilities. This position is based in Houston, TX, where metocean technical support and expertise is provided through the Marine Engineering Function of ExxonMobil Development Company (EMDC).
Position Responsibilities:
. Provide meteorological or oceanographic expertise to a variety of ExxonMobil upstream projects worldwide
. Provide technical support to EMDC project teams throughout the various project phases ranging from Evaluation (concept selection), through Definition (FEED), and finally Execution (detailed design, construction, installation, and start-up)
. Develop Scope of Work for conceptual studies, develop technical specifications, assist in Contractor selection, and assure quality of Contractor's deliverables
. Assist development projects in meeting safety, environmental and capital cost objectives
. Participate in the development of company and industry standards
. Provide effective interface with business units, regulatory agencies, and industry organizations
. Participate in risk management activities, to ensure compliance with ExxonMobil's expectations
Technical support areas include:
. Understanding of meteorological or oceanographic principles and their application to offshore structures with an emphasis on waves, winds, and currents.
. Application of metocean sensor instrumentation and data collection requirements on vessels, industry construction sites, or offshore platforms
. Meteorological analysis and forecasting assessments and their application to offshore operations
. Coastal wave mechanics application to near-shore engineering pipelines, structures or operations
. Practical understanding of offshore operations
. Metocean global or regional modeling
Required Skills & Experience:
. BS in Ocean Engineering with emphasis in Coastal Engineering, Oceanography, or related field (MS preferred)
. Relevant experience and demonstrated knowledge in the above technical areas
. Strong technical and analytical evaluation skills
. Excellent communication and project management skills
. Ability to develop or apply metocean requirements to engineering designs
. Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills
. Self-motivated and focused on achieving business results
. Flexible to international business travel or possible job relocation in support of development projects
Preferred Experience:
. At least 5 years of relevant experience in providing metocean technical services for offshore or marine design, services, or operations
