Overview:
This position is accountable for directing the maintenance, inspection, work methods, repair practices and standards for the overhaul of various types of boilers and major selected auxiliary equipment within the generating stations throughout the entire system. This includes all boiler equipment associated with CC Gas Turbines as well as conventional steam boilers firing oil, gas, or coal. Auxiliary equipment would include, but not limited to, air preheater, ducts, flues, pulverizers and fuel transport equipment. This individual must direct numerous diverse personnel to accomplish this task. Reporting to the incumbent are GenOn personnel, supplemental technical service personnel, engineering specialists and non-destructive examination (NDE) contractors. This incumbent is required to be available on a 24/7 emergency response basis.
Responsibilities:
Leads the inspection team, formulates repair recommendations, and assures proper repairs of the generating station equipment on both scheduled and forced outages. * Based on specific knowledge of the equipment and condition, the individual develops pre-outage work scope document and schedule logic to aid the Planning section and station management to develop realistic outage goals. This will ensure that critical components are inspected or repaired in such a time cycle that maximizes generating station availability, heat rate, safety, and cost effectiveness. * During outages, oversees work in his area of responsibility to ensure work quality, schedule, and costs are reached. * Performs diagnostics testing and analysis on generating station equipment to determine condition and root cause of problems. * Writes a post-outage report that compiles data that documents the work performed and equipment condition, and makes future repair and spare parts recommendations. * Controls, adjusts and reports against the portion of the section budget allocated to the incumbent's responsibility, as well as assisting in the entire section's budget. * Develops technical procedures, work methods or practices to ensure the generating station equipment is operated or that work is performed on that equipment in such a manner to ensure that inspection expediency, equipment reliability, or personnel safety is not adversely affected. * Maintains and updates various electronic data relating the plant maintenance, failures and repairs.
Qualifications:
* The individual must have good communication abilities in order to develop outage scopes; inspection reports and equipment repair recommendations, interpret NDE results, and explain repair instructions to workers. This includes technical writing, drafting, computer and verbal skills. * When dealing with an engineering solution, the incumbent must have practical knowledge of engineering principles and applications such as heat transfer, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, material science, metallurgy, drafting symbols, inspection methods, root cause failure analysis, and mechanical theory. * The individual keeps informed of state-of-the-art inspections and testing techniques, and maintenance practices by attending seminars, manufacturer's training, reading trade periodicals and communicating with manufacturer's representatives * This individual directs the resolution of many technical problems. Because of the technical knowledge and experience required by this position, the incumbent functions with minimal supervision. * The incumbent must possess the physical process to work in confined spaces, on high scaffolding, and frequent boiler internal inspections. EDUCATION:
* This position requires a B.S. in Engineering
EXPERIENCE: * A minimum three (3) years of experience in power generating station operations and maintenance, or a minimum of ten (10) years experience in area of specialization; working knowledge of steam generators and boiler auxiliary equipment is required. GenOn is an EOE
