Position Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Opportunity for a self-starter who enjoys working independently and being part of a fast-paced corporate EHS compliance team to provide regulatory and software application support for Kinder Morgan's Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) compliance systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
. Provide uniform regulatory compliance information to facility managers and operators in an easy-to-understand-and-follow format, such as compliance checklists
. Responsible for troubleshooting and problem solving issues with EHS compliance applications
. Promote the Company's EHS philosophy and culture
. Deconstruct internal and regulatory requirements from engineering and legal vernacular to words and terms that someone without professional training in the subject area can understand and act upon
. Identify the appropriate compliance roles and individuals responsible for completing the necessary compliance actions, within the framework of individuals (such individuals frequently changing roles due to promotions, retirement, new hires and other staffing-related changes)
. Work with field locations and users to identify solutions and responses to issues in support of compliance software
. Assist in the development and enhancement of compliance policies and procedures
. Support and further develop existing automated reporting systems
. Monitor regulatory agencies for proposed and final changes in Environmental, Employee Health and Safety, and other regulations relevant to EHS
. Regulatory monitoring includes, and may not be limited to: federal, state, regional and local jurisdictions in operating areas
. Provide written summaries of proposed and final changes
. Lead the implementation, training and maintenance of EHS compliance software applications and databases
. Proactively plan, organize and oversee assigned work programs
. Deal with a wide variety of people and personalities with tact, courtesy and professionalism across multiple business units, including, but not limited to: other employees, all levels of management, vendors and customers
. Articulate and present ideas, proposals and results to upper management
. Successfully resolve potential conflicts and foster a win-win atmosphere with internal and external customers
. Write effectively, and understand verbal and written communications, including, but not limited to, email
. Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills, and listen carefully
. Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and high level of job performance
. Maintain a high regard for personal safety, the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public
. Travel is required and anticipated to be 15-35% annually, across a broad geographic region, and serving all of KM's business units
. Carry a company-provided cell phone and respond during working hours, and as required during non-working hours
. Work non-traditional hours, as needed
Position Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:
. Bachelor Degree in Environment Science, Engineering or a related discipline, from an accredited academic institution is required.
. A minimum of 5 years direct and active work experience in the Environment field may be acceptable as a degree substitute.

EXPERIENCE/SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE:
. In addition to the degree requirement (or degree substitute), minimum of 1 to 3 years direct and active work experience in Environment field is necessary
. Working knowledge of EPA and OSHA regulations, with the ability to make interpretations of applicability
. Strong knowledge of regulatory structure associated with environmental, safety and health compliance
. Demonstrated experience performing regulatory analysis including interpretation and applicability of environmental regulations
. Experience in successfully delivering training
. Experience with EHS regulations and the implementation of information technology (IT) systems
. Experience interacting with employees and all levels of management

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS:
. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel)
. Must possess or be eligible to acquire a U.S. passport

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
. Excellent written communication and verbal communication skills are necessary.
. Advanced proficiency level with Microsoft applications and database software, specifically including, and not limited to: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
. Must be able to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict and sometimes simultaneous deadlines.
. Must be a team player who is able to work within a group, take direction from supervisor(s), adhere to required work schedules, exhibit excellent follow-through, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
. Ability to successfully perform the required and expected duties with minimal direct supervision.
. Must be able to work autonomously as situation dictates.
. Must be customer-service oriented, and have good organizational and time management skills.
. Possess and consistently demonstrate well-developed organizational skills, including the ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
. Ability to identify, and regularly meet, expectations in an employee/employer relationship.
. Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
. Travel across a broad geographic region (multiple states) is required. Travel by automobile or commercial aircraft is required for meetings at other corporate offices and operations facilities. Travel is anticipated as 15-35%.
. Carry a company-provided cell phone and respond during working hours, and as required during non-working hours.
. Based in Lakewood, Colorado office.
. Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets.
. The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
(Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:)
. Professional certifications in an EHS discipline, or similar background, are considered a plus
. Professional certifications in a Computer Science discipline, or similar background, are advantageous
. Experience with implementation of environmental management system software, specific to tracking EHS compliance is highly desirable, including OpsInfo
. Experience with SQL server
