The MacKay River operation is a commercial bitumen production facility utilizing steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD)to develop our oil sands resource.

Position Outline:
Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the Operator will be responsible for maintaining the safe and reliable operation of process equipment in the assigned processing unit to optimize production in an environmentally responsible manner. The Operator will actively learn all operating units at the facility and progress in increasing levels of responsibility at the site.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

.Performs plant operations duties associated for smooth and efficient operation in assigned work area.
.Ensures that plant related issues beyond the scope of this position are brought to the attention of the Shift Supervisor in a timely fashion.
.Prepares and completes daily area logs and communicate significant changes and findings to the Shift Supervisor in a timely manner.
.Provides direction and supervision to maintenance and contract personnel performing maintenance and other plant duties during the assigned shift.
.Ensures timely action during plant upsets and process adjustment consistent with operational objectives and target outputs.
.Prepares equipment for maintenance and commissions repairs, new equipment and systems.
.Acts as coach and mentor for new staff.
.Ensures that shift change is well communicated.
.Maintains housekeeping in assigned unit at a high level, ensures the safety of personnel working within the assigned area and ensures PPE and other plant policies are followed during operations.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
.Candidates with 3rd Class or more advanced Power Engineering certification valid in Alberta (ABSA). Candidates close to 3rd Class certification will be given consideration.
.Previous plant operations experience in heavy oil processing, sour gas processing, water treatment/power plants or refinery operations is preferred.
.Must possess a valid driver's license.
.Applicants must have a high school diploma or a General Equivalency Diploma.
.Ability to make timely decisions associated with process upsets and work in a team environment.
.Strong trouble shooting skills
.Work well with contractor, engineering and maintenance groups.
.Computer literacy is required.
