Location and team

DNV KEMA's Testing, Inspection, and Certification group is seeking an Electrical Power Test Technician to join KEMA - Powertest, the largest high power electrical testing laboratory in the United States providing electrical power, dielectric and mechanical testing services to a variety of clients from government and industry. The Electrical Power Test Technician will set up and perform tests, and evaluate test results for electrical power equipment. This position is based out of our Chalfont, PA laboratory.

Tasks may include

• Work under the general direction of Test Engineer or Supervisor using available test procedures and data to set up, test, and assist in the evaluation of the electrical and mechanical performance of all types of electrical apparatus. Assemble, disassemble and repair test specimen as required by the test program. Operate all types of laboratory equipment
• Apply general knowledge of electrical circuits, equipment and knowledge of laboratory equipment to determine safe operating limits of test apparatus. Make basic calculations to obtain circuit constants such as resistances, reactance, power factors, voltages, currents and other similar information required in test circuitry
• Set up instrumentation utilizing transducers and instruments, such as shunts, current transformers, voltage transformers, voltage dividers, oscillographs, oscilloscopes, cameras, and transient recorders for obtaining correct test results
• Perform repairs on instrumentation, test equipment, and other laboratory equipment. Fabricate, install, and test out instrumentation and equipment related to the laboratory operation. Be responsible for the safe and careful handling of laboratory instruments and equipment. Keep test equipment, test areas, and other related areas clean and orderly
• Operate material moving equipment as required
• Check accuracy of own work and work of others
• Guide and assist in training of other personnel where applicable
• May perform other duties as assigned

What we're asking

• A BS in Engineering Technology with concentration in Electrical Engineering preferred
• A diploma from a recognized trade school in the electrical field
• 2+ years experience in the work described herein, and in the use of the type of equipment, and machinery referred to above
• Electrician background is helpful
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills
• Ability to work independently and complete work assignments without continuous supervision
• Willingness to travel to client locations if required. (less than 15% travel expected)
• May require climbing, working overhead or in confined spaces
• The ability to lift up to 50 pounds is required
• Ability to learn and, at all times, adhere to proper safety protocols is required
