MAIN ROLE
The International & Offshore (I&O) business unit is based in Calgary and has production and exploration activities located in Northwest Europe, Libya, Syria and the East Coast of Canada. Two exciting opportunities have arisen within I&O for the position of Senior Accountant, Consolidations to join the Control & Accounting team in Calgary, reporting to the Consolidations & Reporting Manager:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting responsibilities:
. Gathering and analytical review of regional accounting information to ensure its integrity, correctness and suitability for purposes of consolidation into Suncor's external and internal reporting (accurate, appropriate and consistent application of generally accepted and company accounting principles).
. Responsible for consolidation of approximately 50 legal entities in a complex multi-currency environment.
. Supporting the quarterly audit reviews and annual external audit.
. Co-ordination of country statutory accounts for all legal entities. This includes ensuring compliance to local GAAP, meeting statutory filing deadlines, and coordinating external audits as required.
. Preparation of single entity and I&O consolidated group financial statements (balance sheet, income statement and cash flow) on a periodic basis in line with local statutory requirements and for submission to the local managements and corporate finance team.
. Analytical work on working capital, investing activities, and other relevant items within the consolidated results.
. Reviewing the goodwill impairment test and ceiling tests for each region.
. Assisting in preparation and review of business unit disclosure incorporated in quarterly release and annual financial statements.
. Preparation of items for the budget process.
. Review the income tax provision to assess correctness and consistency of application
. Co-ordination of Contractual Obligation Reporting
. Co-ordinate the quarterly sign off on consolidated and business unit results with external auditors
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
. CA, CGA, or CMA designation required with 5 to 10 years experience
. Knowledge of consolidations, consolidation theory and the application thereof
. Specialized knowledge of accounting standards and disclosure requirements under Canadian, International Financial Reporting and US GAAP standards. This is mandatory in order to apply the relevant standards to the Company and resolution of the accounting issues raised
. Strong financial analysis skills and several years of financial analysis experience with prior exposure to other disciplines
. Industry knowledge and understanding of diversified oil and gas operations
. Knowledge of SAP, SUN and Excel preferable.
. Ability to meet tight deadlines for completion of monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reporting
. Experience in liaising with external auditors and external functions
